Obituary

Raymond C. Braddy, 81, of Fitzgerald, died Sunday, August 2, 2015 at his residence surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held 4 PM, Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at Central United Methodist Church in Fitzgerald with the Rev. B.J. Funk and the Rev. Mike Benson officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:30 – 3:45 on Tuesday in the sanctuary of the church.

Mr. Braddy was born June 27, 1934, in Talbot County, Georgia to the late Hiram Adrian & Leila Foster Braddy. Mr. Braddy earned his Eagle Scout in 1951. A 1952 graduate of Manchester High School, Mr. Braddy worked his way through college by working summers at Callaway Mills in Manchester, as well as, running a laundry service for his friends, and even shooting pool. He attended Georgia Southwestern College and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Valdosta State College in 1959. He worked for Luthersville Banking Company before moving to Fitzgerald in 1964. Mr. Braddy spent the next five decades in The Colony City working as a banker at First State Bank then later beginning his entrepreneurial career. He was the owner/operator of Braddy’s Convenience Store, Braddy’s Crop Insurance, and Davis E-Z Shop before retiring in 2014. He remained active as owner of Colony City Finance as well as Shell Rapid Lube. An avid golfer in his younger years, Mr. Braddy was a longtime member of the former Fitzgerald Country Club. He was a member of the Elks Club and Turkey Creek. He enjoyed taking long rides in the country with friends and family members and loved watching Fox News, especially Bill O'Reilly. Mr. Braddy was a huge sports fan especially of the Manchester Blue Devils, Fitzgerald Purple Hurricanes, and Georgia Bulldogs. He was also a member of Central United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Annette G. Braddy; his children and their spouses: Karla & Mike Foster, Hank & DeDee Braddy, Gill & Shaw Braddy, and Brian & Rebecca Braddy, all of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Mary Claire & Chance Giddens, Michael Foster, John Foster, Ben Braddy, Sarah Braddy, Maggie Braddy, Haley Braddy, Ashley Braddy, and Allie Braddy; two brothers, Don & Janie Braddy and Edwin & Louise Braddy, all of Manchester; a sister-in-law, Barbara Braddy of Manchester; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Melvin Braddy and a sister, Barbara Jean Harper.
