Obituary

ASSONET – Louis Costa, husband of Olga M. (DeSousa) Costa of Assonet, died at Charlton Memorial Hospital on July 27, 2015.
He was 89.
Born in Taunton, he was the son of the late Anthony and Josephine M. (Medeiros) Costa.
Educated in Taunton schools, he later served in the Army Air Corps as a ball turret gunner during WW II.
Mr. Costa was employed as a project developer and designer for the former F.B. Rogers Silver Company for many years.
When the company closed, he was the Plant Superintendent.
A licensed gemologist, he co-owned and operated Taunton’s former Olga’s Jewelry & Gifts with his wife for many years.
He was later employed by J.C. Penney, where he worked in the Jewelry Department for another 20 years before retiring at the age of 82.
In his earlier years, Mr. Costa served as campaign manager for former Mayor Rudy DeSilva and chairman of the TMLP Commission.
He was a communicant of Taunton’s St. Anthony Church.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Costa leaves a brother, Dr. Joseph Costa of San Diego, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the son-in-law of Deolinda DeSousa of Taunton, and the of brother-in-law of Elsa Silveira and her husband Manny of Taunton, Victor DeSousa and his wife Isabel of Assonet, Robert C. DeSousa and his wife Tara of Assonet, and Maria M. Latimore of Taunton. He was also the brother of the late Jilda Pata, Anthony Costa, Elaine Morris and Edward Costa.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Anthony Church, Taunton on Friday, July 31st at 11 a.m.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
