Obituary

Middleboro - Eva F. (Torrey) Devereaux 80, formerly of Plymouth, died Tuesday July 28 after a period of failing health.

Born in Nantucket and raised in the Boston area she was the daughter of the late Eldred J. and Amy (Burdick) Torrey.

Eva was a graduate of the former Girls’ Latin School of Boston and had furthered her education graduating from Massasoit Community College and later Salem State College earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. She had worked for the Visiting Nurse Association around the South Shore and Cape Cod areas. Prior to her retirement she was employed by the State of Massachusetts working many years as a nurse at the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in Jamaica Plain.

She had served as a deaconess in her church and was an avid reader.

She is survived by her sons Steven Devereaux and his wife Michelle of Plymouth and Jack Devereaux and his wife Dawn of Rockland. She is also survived by her sister Margaret Engelsman of Maine, nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Susan Rockwell and sister of the late John Torrey and Elaine Sawyer.

Family and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Service to be held Tuesday August 4 at 8:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. A private burial will be held at a later date. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 6:00-8:00 PM.
