Celeste Monteiro Sousa, 96, of Marlborough, formerly of Hudson passed away peacefully on Monday, July 27th at Beaumont Skilled Nursing Center in Westborough after a period of declining health. She was the loving wife of 65 years to the late Manuel H. Sousa at the time of his passing in May 2007.
Celeste was born and raised in Hudson, daughter of John C. and Juliana (Almeida) Monteiro. She attended local schools and was a 1937 graduate of Hudson High School. She was a longtime receptionist for Dr. Curtis in Hudson. Celeste was a member of the Hudson Women’s Club, member of the Catholic Daughter’s, a member of the former Hudson Hospital Auxiliary, a Red Cross Volunteer and a longtime Girl Scout Leader in Hudson. She was a member of Saint Michael’s Parish in Hudson and also a former CCD Instructor within the Parish.
She is survived by her daughter, Jeanne Fondas and her husband Lee of Marlboro and was predeceased by her son, Paul E. Sousa in 1988. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Andrew (Tammy) Fondas of Georgia, Kevin (Pamela) Fondas of Hudson, Matthew (Mary) Fondas of East Boston; her adoring great grandchildren Colby, Bryson, Emma, Ethan and Theo; her sisters-in-law, Maryzell Souza and Maryann Mutti, both of Florida along with many nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Aug. 1st at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Michael’s Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Michael’s Cemetery, Hudson. Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 31st from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Tighe-¬Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Hudson Community Food Pantry, Inc., PO Box 608, Hudson, MA 01749.
