Ruben Rios Lopez of Taunton passed away on the evening of July 25, 2015 at Morton Hospital. He was the loving father of Damari Rivera and Ada Rivera both of Taunton. Ruben spent 16 wonderful years with his girlfriend Donna Chapman of Taunton. He raised his step children Carlos Rivera, William Rivera, Luis Velasquez, and Kara Chapman all of Taunton. Ruben was the proud and loving grandfather of Carlos D. Cornier, Dakota Costa, Malaika Rivera, Anthony Serrano, Jr., Maliyah Serrano and Joseph Chapman. Mr. Lopez also leaves behind his 4 sisters and a brother who are living in Puerto Rico.
Ruben was born on June 13, 1947 in Yaucco, Puerto Rico and was the son of the late Alberto Rios and Mercedes Lopez. He went to work at a very young age, leaving school following the 8th grade. After coming to the United States he continued with his hardworking nature, working as a machinist and then in food service following his retirement. The only quality that could conquer his work ethic was his love for his family and he will always be remembered as a great Dad, grandfather, boyfriend and friend.
Mr. Lopez was fun loving and mello guy. Around Christmas time he and a group of his buddies would entertain all by singing Christmas carols. He was a talented guitar player and singer, a passion that he was more than happy to share with family and friends. Ruben enjoyed many things in life but the beauty of antique cars was something that brought great joy to him. His big heart and soft spoken nature will be loved and missed by all who were touched by his spirit.
Visiting Hours will take place on Monday August 3, 2015 from 6-8pm at Taunton Funeral Home 8 Crapo St. (off Tremont St/Route 140) Taunton, MA 02780. A funeral service will be celebrated on Tuesday August 4, 2015 at 10am in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mayflower Hill Cemetery in Taunton.
