Obituary


Betty Ann Crowley passed away surrounded by loved ones on July 19, 2015 at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston after a 9 month battle with ovarian cancer. Betty was a resident of Alameda CA and Martha’s Vineyard. She was 58 years old.

She was the daughter of the late Margaret (Ahern) Crowley and F. David Crowley, former Chief of the Canton Fire Department. She leaves her brother David Crowley and his wife Annette (Penny), as well as two nieces, Chelsea and Makaila Crowley all of Canton. She also leaves her dear friend James (Jim) Koss, his daughter Kiera and her two cats, Jack and Maura.

Betty was always happiest when she was close to the water. Early on she was an accomplished swimmer and became a life guard at Bolivar Pond while she was a student at Canton High School. As she grew older she was proud to have won gold medals in the Junior Olympics. She set many speed records with the Canton Dolphins, Canton High School Swim Team and the Harvard Club Swim Team. In the 1990’s she was recognized as being the eighth woman on record to captain a ship across the Pacific Ocean on her pride and joy which was a 38 foot single mast steel hull sailboat named “Skookum”. A graduate of St. Elizabeth’s Nursing School in Brighton MA, over her 30+ year career she worked as an ER, ICU and Cardiac Care Nurse in hospitals across Massachusetts, Hawaii and California – for the past 10 years she worked an IT professional in the medical field. She was fond of cooking and her hobbies included jewelry making and enameling.

Private burial arrangements coordinated by the Roache-Pushard Funeral Home 210 Sherman St., Canton. Relatives & friends are invited to gather for a celebration of life on Saturday, September 19th from 3-6pm at the Canton American Legion Post 24, 950 Washington Street in Canton (behind Canton High School).

Donations may be made in her memory to the Canton EMT Association c/o Canton Fire Dept. 99 Revere Street, Canton, MA 02021.
