Edward Vincent Smith, 87
WORCESTER – Edward Vincent Smith, 87, of Worcester, passed away July 23,2015 surrounded by his loving family. He leaves his wife of 60 years, Marion (Shukis) Smith; his children: Col. Alan Smith and his wife Valerie of Yorktown, VA; Dr. Cynthia Smith of Putnam, CT; Janet Smith of Newton,Stephen Smith and his wife Christine of Worcester, and Amy Bartram and her husband Michael of North Reading. He also leaves six grandsons: David Smith, Jarrett Smith, Timothy Smith, Matthew Tompkins, Michael Bartram, and James Bartram. He also leaves his sister Pauline Davey of Sunnyvale, CA, and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Leon Smith of Medway, Joseph Smith of Saugus, Thomas Smith of Millis, Paul Smith of Medway, Anna Damplo of Natick and Noreen Macko of Omaha, NE.
Edward “Vinny” Smith was born in Millis, the son of John and Nonie (Darcy) Smith. He grew up on a working farm and graduated Millis High School in 1945. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Occupying Forces in Japan after World War II and re-enlisted to serve in the Korean War. He attained the rank of sergeant and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 6 Bronze Service Stars and the Presidential Unit Citation. He worked in the printing industry in Worcester, retiring in 1993. He was a longtime member and former president of the Worcester Craftsmens Club. He loved to travel, cook breakfast, play cribbage and especially spend time with family.
His family would like to thank the staff at UMass Memorial Medical Center and Holy Trinity Rehabilitation Center for their exceptional care and compassion.
Calling hours will be held Monday, July 27 from 5 to 8pm at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street in Worcester.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 28 at 10:30am at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 23 Fales Street in Worcester. Burial will be at 2:30pm at Saint Joseph’s Cemetery in Medway. For directions or to leave an online condolence message, please click link below.
