TIVERTON, RI - Antone Jardin, 93, of Tiverton, RI, and formerly of East Bridgewater, MA, died at the Fall River Jewish Home, on July 20th, 2015.
Born and raised in East Taunton, he was the son of the late John G. and Maria Isabella (daLuz) Jardin.
As an adolescent and young man he enjoyed midget car racing and messing around the King Aviation Field where he learned to fly small aircraft as a private pilot.
He enlisted into the US Marine Corp in September of 1942 and attended parachutist and marksmanship training at Camp Lejeune, New River NC, before deploying to the Pacific with the Fifth Marine Division.
He took part in the invasion of Iwo Jima and was awarded a Purple Heart.
He subsequently became a firefighter for the U.S. Navy and worked at both NAS Quonset, and NAS Weymouth from which he retired from government service in 1978.
He was a member of the Tiverton VFW Post 5392.
In addition to his former wife Johanna, he leaves his son John G. Jardin and his wife Julie of Mashpee, three daughters, Linda J. Mahoney and her husband Paul of West Tisbury, Diane D. Jardin of Rochester, and Deborah Jardin and her husband Mel Hensch of Little Compton, RI; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and a passel of the family’s canines who will miss his watchful eye and brown bag filled with cookies.
He was also the brother of the late Albert and John Jardin, (Mary) Grace Alegi, Nora Savoy, Lucille Turner, Edna Amaral, and Lillian Bruno.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass at Holy Family Church, 370 Middleboro Ave. East Taunton on Monday, July 27th at 11 a.m.
Burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:15 p.m.
