Manuel T. Alvarnaz, “Sleepy Joe”, age 91, of Fall River, passed away on July 22, 2015 at the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home. He was the husband of the late Irene Soares (Medeiros) Alvarnaz. Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Manuel and Macquelina (Ferreira) Albernaz. Manuel was a member of the Laborers Union.
Manuel leaves behind his children Manuel J. Alvarnaz of Taunton, Irene Mele of Somerset, Ida Almeida of New Bedford and Theresa Laudato of GA; siblings John Tavares of Tiverton, Odilia Marques of Fall River and Elaina Estacio of Westport. He also leaves behind 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Lorraine Alvarnaz and siblings Maria Arruda and Joseph Alvernaz.
His funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home 1521 N. Main St. Fall River on Saturday here at 8:30 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial St. John of God Church at 9:30 A.M. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours on Friday from 4-7 P.M. www.rogersfuneral.com.
