SUDBURY: Raymond Putnam Jones, Jr., 94, died peacefully on July 20, 2015 at his residence at Wingate at Sudbury.
He was born on May 15, 1921 the son of the late Raymond Putnam Jones, Sr., and Joyce Sunshine (Elkins) Jones.
His early schooling was in Michigan and Florida. During his junior year in college the Navy called him up in 1943 and sent him to an accelerated program at the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis where he studied engineering and was immediately sent to the South Pacific because of the critical shortage of engineering officers. While in the United States Navy during World War II he was commissioned an Ensign and served aboard the destroyer USS Vincennes and was engaged in battles at Iwo Jima, Pearl Harbor and Guam.
Upon returning from military service, he received his undergraduate degree in Engineering from the University of Missouri and his Master’s Degree from the Wharton School of Finance in Philadelphia. He was employed by Raytheon and Westinghouse Corporations before becoming a private marketing consultant until his retirement.
He is survived by his sister, Dixie Lee Premer of East Lansing, MI, five nephews, eleven great-nieces and great nephews and their children. He is also survived by his special friend Anna-Mae Barney of Sudbury.
At Ray’s request there will be no final or formal funeral services. His cremains will be scattered out to sea.
