WEST SPRINGFIELD – Richard R. “Dick” Beaudro, 89, a longtime resident of West Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, July 18, 2015. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family and friends. He was born in Ludlow on November 10, 1925, a beloved son of the late George M. and Agnes M. (Boudreau) Beaudro. He was educated in Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts schools before graduating in 1943 from Cathedral High School in Springfield. He lived in Springfield for many years before moving to West Springfield around 1992. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and attained the rank of Baker Third Class. He received the American Area Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal, the Philippine Liberation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He retired from the Springfield Fire Department as a District Chief in 1978 after 30 years of service. He was also employed for over 40 years as a bartender at the former Mountain View Frolics in the Willimansett section of Chicopee and the former Ivanhoe Restaurant in West Springfield. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 430, a member of the Marconi Club and a longtime associate member of the John Boyle O’Reilly Club, all in Springfield. He was member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9450 in Tokyo, Japan, the Tiger’s Athletic Club in Chicopee, and a member of the Elks Lodge 2174 and Knights of Columbus Council 2212, both in West Springfield. He was a charter member and President from 1972 to 1978 of the Springfield Fire Chiefs’ Association. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his dear brother, William Beaudro. He leaves his godson, Richard Roos of Springfield; his goddaughter, Karen Belanger of Granby; and numerous friends including Judith DeMusis of Springfield and Dan and Cindy Herlihy of East Longmeadow. A Committal Service with United States Navy Military Honors will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
