Obituary

Lorraine M. Griffin, 74, passed away peacefully on Sunday July 12, at Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center.

She was born in Somerville, on May 15, 1941, daughter of the late Cahill F. and Elizabeth (MacKenzie) Griffin and moved to Worcester at a young age.

Lorraine graduated from St. Peters High School in 1959. She went on to earn her Bachelors degree from Anna Maria College and her Master's degree from Clark University. Lorraine also attended Harvard University.

While attending college, Lorraine worked in the labs at City Hospital and Fairlawn Hospital. Following graduation she was employed at Fanning Trade High School where she taught in the LPN program. Later she worked at the former “Girls Trade”, known today as Worcester Technical High School.

A devout catholic, Lorraine was a lifelong parishioner of St. Paul’s Cathedral in Worcester.

She was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association, and the Alumni Associations for both Anna Maria College and Clark University. An animal lover, Lorraine cherished her many cats and dogs, especially most recently her guide dog, Chelsea.

She will be dearly missed by her cousins, Carol Coker, of Worcester, Alvin Neil and his wife Judy of Saco, ME, and Roberta Griffin of Wellesley; her longtime friends, Pat Williamson, Wini Vokhausen, Mary Laplante, Maryann Gatewood.

She was predeceased by her sister Florence Griffin.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. George Eypper and Dr. Jennifer Tjia.

Visiting Hours will be held on Tuesday July 14 from 5 until 8pm at the CALLAHAN-FAY-CASWELL FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Wednesday July 15, at St. Paul’s Cathedral, 38 High St., Worcester. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.

Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 85 Astor Ave., #2, Norwood, MA; or to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Natick, MA
