Obituary

NATICK: Catherine D. Quayle Haley, age 60, a spirited lady with a passion for wildlife and the outdoors, died peacefully after battling cancer at her daughter’s Natick home on Thursday, July 9, 2015, surrounded by her loved ones and fur babies. She had been the loving companion and wife of Roy J. Haley for past 34 years.

Born in Cambridge, and raised in Natick, she was the daughter of Thomas E. Quayle, Sr., of Natick, and the late Dorothy (Paradis) Quayle. Cathy graduated from Natick High School in 1973, and married and started a family. Cathy was employed at the Filene’s Basement warehouse in Natick for several years prior to working in the hospitality industry. She was employed with Red Roof Inns in Southborough and Framingham as a night auditor and later with Howard Johnson’s in Natick in the same capacity. For the past fifteen years, Cathy has been a vender correspondent with BJ’s Wholesale Club.

She cherished time spent with her grandchildren, being silly and becoming one of the kids with them. Cathy loved to laugh and her great sense of humor remained strong throughout her illness. Between her humor and stubborn streak she was able to fight her disease until the end. In years past she had enjoyed camping and hiking, horseback riding, and visiting zoos and the New England Aquarium. Family Bar-B–Qs were favorites, as well as watching movies, particularly if John Wayne was in it, listening to Elvis Presley, and crocheting. Her love of nature and observing wildlife was met in the home and property that she and Roy purchased in Southbridge 16 years ago. In the midst of a large lot of unspoiled land, Cathy could walk and observe any number of birds and animals at her leisure. She had a great love for her cats and dogs, a couple of whom were transported from Southbridge to be with her this past week.

In addition to Roy and her father, Cathy is survived by a daughter, Lorna Quayle and her companion Scott Celorier of Natick; a son, Keith Carruthers of Holliston; two grandchildren, Ariana Subilosky and Devin Kiser of Natick; and her former husband and friend Reginald J. Carruthers of Holliston. Sister of Thomas Quayle, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth of Dover, Margaret O’Donnell and her companion Glenn Anthony of Natick, and “baby brother” John Quayle and his wife Laura of Webster, she is also survived by an aunt, Jerre Quayle of Cambridge, a number of truly devoted friends, among them Leatrice Phillips of Framingham, Joan Wright of Old Orchard Beach, ME, and Becky Newell and Joan Meissner of Southbridge, and many nieces and nephews and their families.

Visiting hours will be in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, Wednesday, July 15th from 4 – 7PM, ending with a service of remembrance. The family would like everyone to be comfortable and please wear their favorite pair of jeans, even if ripped, because that is how Cathy lived her life – comfortably.

Donations may be made in her memory to the Cancer Center at Harrington, 55 Sayles Street, Southbridge, MA 01550.
