Obituary



Worcester – Thomas E. McDonough Jr., 71, of Worcester, died on Monday, July 6th in his home with his family by his side.

Tom is married to Linda (Boss) Sturtze McDonough and was predeceased by his first wife Maureen (Cronan) McDonough who died in 1998. He is survived by his three sons, Thomas R. McDonough and his wife Karen of Keene, NH, Timothy W. McDonough and his wife Pam of Framingham and Todd M. McDonough and his wife Stacie of Londonderry, NH; his step children, Tanyon Sturtze and his wife Erica of Delray Beach, FL, Heidi Sturtze and her fiancé Timothy Evans of Worcester, Heather Sturtze and her partner Levester Burrell of Worcester and Todd Sturtze and his wife Kerrie of Worcester; 9 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.

Mr. McDonough was born in Waltham, son of the late Thomas E. McDonough Sr. and Catherine A. (Cavanaugh) McDonough. He is also predeceased by two sisters, Anne M. McDonough and Margaret “Peg” Hidenfelter.

Tom served the United States in the Air Force and received his bachelor’s degree from Saint Anselm’s College and furthered his education with a master’s degree from Assumption College. He worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for 32 years as a social worker in the Department of Children and Family Services retiring in 2002.

Mr. McDonough was a family man that volunteered countless hours to coaching his children’s baseball teams throughout the years. He enjoyed doing many things, however, one of his favorite things to do was read. Tom was a longtime, dedicated parishioner of the former Saint Charles Borromeo Church where he and his first wife, Maureen, volunteered for many years.

The funeral will be held on Friday, July 10th from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. with a funeral mass at 10:30 AM in Our Lady of the Angels Church 1222 Main St. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 9th from 4 to 8 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to either Our Lady of the Angels Church “Family Center Campaign” 1222 Main St. Worcester, MA 01603 or to the American Cancer Society 30 Speen Street Framingham, MA 01701.
