DUDLEY – Barbara J. (Olson) Small, 74, died Thursday, July 2, 2015 in Brookside Rehab & Healthcare Center, Webster.
She leaves a daughter, Rebecca A. Costa and a granddaughter, Katherine Saad, both of Dudley; her mother, Sylvia (Abrahamson) Olson of Shrewsbury; a sister, Kathleen Schmidt of Long Island, NY; 2 nephews and 4 grandnieces.
She was born in Cambridge, Michigan, daughter of the late Clarence Olson and moved to Worcester in 1944. She graduated from North High School in 1957 and from the Worcester City School of Nursing in 1961. She lived in Shrewsbury and South Carolina before coming to Dudley in 1992.
A registered nurse, she worked at Worcester City Hospital and at Worcester State Hospital. She then was a psychiatric nurse at the University of S. Carolina Psychiatric Treatment Center for several years. She worked at Parsons Hill Nursing Home in Worcester before retiring in early 2013.
She was a former member of the Salem Square Covenant Church in West Boylston. She enjoyed painting , writing poetry and singing. She loved animals.
