Obituary

Worcester, MA/Timonium, MD-Mary Margaret Dunphy Carroll McCarthy, 92, died on June 16, 2015 at Stella Maris Hospice Center in Timonium, MD.


Mary Margaret Dunphy was born in Worcester, MA on August 27, 1922, the only child of John J. Dunphy of Worcester, MA and Margaret Scales of County Clare, Ireland and Worcester, MA. She was a graduate of South High School and continued on at Secretarial School. She married Francis Leo (Frank) Carroll in 1946.



Mary worked in real estate in Falls Church, VA. Mary and Frank moved back to Amherst, NH and continued their real estate business. After Frank’s death in 1984, Mary moved back to Virginia for a short period. Mary remarried in 1992 to Robert Vincent (Bob) McCarthy after which she relocated to Hernando, FL. Mary and Bob moved to Mercy Ridge in Timonium, MD in 2003 where she resided until her death.


She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved her family, her church and community, and served them all faithfully during her lifetime. She was known for her effortless entertaining, being an excellent cook, wonderful homemaker, her love of reading, her smile and, especially, her laugh.


Mary is preceded in death by her son, Shaun, her husband of 37 years, Frank Carroll, and her second husband of 20 years, Bob McCarthy.


She is survived by her children; Kathleen Kauffmann (Carl) of Arnold, MD; Kevin Carroll (Lucinda) of Pittsburgh, PA, and Maura Hancock (John) of Crofton, MD; five grandchildren: David, Brian, and Colleen Kauffmann; Jonathan and Kyle Hancock; eleven great grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.



A memorial mass will be held at Stella Maris chapel on July 15, 2015 at 10:30 am. Funeral services will be held in Worcester, Massachusetts. Visitation will be held at Callahan-Fay Caswell Funeral Home 61 Myrtle Street Worcester, MA 01608, on Monday, July 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, 1222 Main Street and Burial in St John’s Cemetery in Worcester, MA.



In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stella Maris Hospice Center, 2300 Dulaney Valley Rd, Timonium, MD 21093.
