New Bedford – Frances Costa, age 85 of New Bedford, passed away on Thursday June 25, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the loving wife of the late Manuel Costa and the daughter of the late Louise (Francis) and Leandro Sylvia.
Born in New Bedford, Mrs. Costa was a lifelong resident of this area and worked in the seafood industry for Tichon Seafood for many years until her retirement. She enjoyed making monchoop for family gatherings.
Her family includes 3 children: Manuel Costa and his wife, Cindy, of Dartmouth, Jeffrey Costa of Spring Hill, Florida and Melodie Adriano and her husband, Al, of New Bedford; 7 grandchildren: Michael Costa, Melissa Correia, Brett Costa, Dawn Gamage, Heather Costa, Mikayla Adriano and Jacob Adriano; as well as 8 great grandchildren.
Frances is predeceased by her siblings: Florence Tavares, Lillian Sylvia, Mary Pacheco, Lionel B. Francis and Joseph Sylvia.
Her funeral will be Wednesday beginning in the funeral home at 8:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lawrence Martyr Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Tuesday evening from 5 - 8 P.M. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford, MA.
