Obituary

Bernard Joseph Loughlin of Brandon, Florida, formerly of Brockton, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on June 18th after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was the loving husband of the late Lois (O'Neil) Loughlin. Bernie was born in Brockton on April 11, 1937, the son of the late Joseph and Madeline (Costello) Loughlin.

He graduated from Brockton High School in 1955. While in high school he enlisted in the United States Naval Reserves and he served honorably for eight years. Bernie received a degree in Engineering Industrial Electronics from Wentworth Institute of Technology. He then began a thirty-four year career as a systems engineer for IBM.

He was a fourth degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus in both Massachusetts and Florida. He spent many years as a troop leader for the Boy Scouts. A talented woodworker, Bernie also enjoyed traveling, gardening, and reading.

A loving father and grandfather, he is survived by his daughters and sons in law, Sheila and Kevin Prendeville of Hanson, MA, Christine Loughlin of Brandon, FL, Margie and Dennis Lowell of Amherst, NH, Paula and Robert Olsen of Wilbraham, MA; nine grandchildren, Kevin, Anna and Bryan Prendeville, Samuel, Jack, and Sadie Lowell, Emily, Nora and Molly Olsen. He is also survived by his sister Dorothy Pease of Halifax, MA. He was predeceased by his son Joseph Bernard Loughlin.

A funeral Mass will be held Thursday, June 25, at 10:30 am at Christ the King Parish in Brockton, MA. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visiting hours are omitted. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Bernie’s name to the National Parkinson's Foundation, 1501 NW 9th Avenue, Miami, FL 33136.
