Stephan “Steve” Batchelder passed away suddenly June 11th in Suzhou, China where he had lived and worked for many years for Solutia as an engineer. Beloved son of Nelson D. Batchelder, MD of Canton and the late Lois Batchelder. Steve is survived by his beloved wife Sarah, and their two sons, Kurt and Erik, a brother Nelson D., Jr. and a sister Lynn Conley. Stephan graduated from Canton High School in 1969 and went on to receive an AB in Biology from the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho and a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University in Boston. He went on to earn an MBA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Steve had a passion for his work in China and enjoyed visiting Disney World with his wife and sons and enjoyed travelling with his wife Sarah. In 1962 Steve visited a working ranch, Triangle X2 in Moose, Wyoming. During his high school and college vacations he worked at the ranch, moving up from a chore boy to full time wrangler and finally leading family pack trips into the Teton Bridges Wilderness area. Steve also was a bareback bronco rider in rodeo events in Jackson, Wyoming, a long wonderful ride from Canton High School. Canton prepared him for life to its fullest. Relatives and friends invited to attend a celebration of Steve’s life at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton Tuesday June 30th from 5-8 pm. Burial private.
