Obituary

Virginia Lee (Hudson) Markine, 94, of Oxnard passed away on June 21, 2015 with her children at her side.
Mother was born on March 11, 1921 in Seattle, WA to Flora McCartney and Charles Hudson. Their family relocated to San Bernardino, CA when she was quite young. She met and married Dad in 1939 and they raised their family there. They relocated to Oxnard in 1994.
Mother was an extraordinary woman in every way. She was a stay at home mom for many years before she returned to the work force. She had a varied and interesting career, which included being the Mayor's secretary at the age of 18. She spent much of her working life in civil service, the majority spent at the Department of Rehabilitation, where she was promoted to Clerical Supervisor and then to Assistant District Administrator. In addition to the District office, she oversaw the operations of four branch offices.
Mother believed strongly in the education, training and development of herself and of others. She mentored many of the employees in the department, encouraged them to continue their education, worked with them on developing critical skill sets and a career plan and prepared them for promotional interviews. She served on the Board of Directors at WMCA, the Supervisory Board at the Credit Union, and was a long-time member of the American Society for Training and Development.
Mother created a secure, happy, stimulating and supportive environment for her family, and gave us many opportunities to learn, grown, and become well-rounded individuals. She loved to read and garden, enjoyed all types of music, was a great dancer and enjoyed playing tennis and swimming. She was fun, had a tremendous sense of humor, a great curiosity about the world and was a person of great integrity and courage. She passed all of these things on to her children, and we are the richer for it. She demonstrated her love for us every day of her life. We were blessed to have her with us for 94 years.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Frances Markine of Florence, AL; daughters and sons-in-law Susan and John Okoneski of Oxnard and Patricia and Ron Ridenour of Atascardero, CA; granddaughters Xena Markine, Kirsten (Okoneski) Lucera and Lynn (Okoneski) Rapp; great-grandchildren Emily Lauren Rapp, Owen Okoneski Rapp, Nolan Ezeo Lucera and Nathan Jude Lucera; and nieces Karen Brighting and Dr. Sandra Lindholm. She was preceded in death by our dear father, Ed, in 2003.
Family and friends are invited to visiting hours to be held on Monday evening June 29, 2015 from 5 -8pm in the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME, 757 E. Main Street Ventura, where a Most Holy Rosary will be recited at 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday June 30, 2015 at 10am in Santa Clara Roman Catholic Church, 323 S. E Street Oxnard. Interment will immediately follow in Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura.
