Obituary

Age 85 of Maplewood
Formerly of International Falls, MN
Died June 15, 2015. Don was preceded in death by his parents William F. and Mayme (Flamme) Spiess; 2 sisters, Betty Pego and Helen Ishler; his brother Edward; brother-in-law Rocco Pego; niece Luanne; and nephew Thomas. He is survived by his loving children Rick, Jim and Jeanne (Bob); and a step-son Michael Brennard of International Falls. He is also survived by his brothers Bill (Maryjane), Howard (Audrey) and Bob (Sharon); many nieces, nephews, and amazing friends. Don was a proud Korean War Veteran who had attained the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, a Good Conduct Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. The family would like to thank his care team at the VA Medical Center, especially the dedicated staff on the dialysis unit that took such good care of our Dad all of these past eight years. Don will be buried Monday, June 22, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery with a graveside military honor service. Family and friends will gather at the cemetery at Assembly Area #4 at 11:45 am. A Celebration of Life luncheon will follow at K & J Catering, 2546 7th Ave E, North St Paul, MN 55109.
