George H. Jalbert

George H. Jalbert, 93 of Peabody, and a former resident of Salem, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, June 14, 2015 with his family by his side. He was the devoted husband of Louvianna C. (Blais) Jalbert with whom he shared 68 years of marriage.

Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Theophile and Marie (Pelletier) Jalbert. A veteran of World War II, George served with the 8th Army Air Force 1st Bombardment Division, 306th Bombardment Group, 369th Squadron in the air offensive in Normandy, Northern France , the Rhineland and the Ardennes. Following his tour of duty he returned to Salem and in 1947 married Lou, the love of his life. At the time he was working for the A.C. Lawrence Leather Company of Peabody. He left A.C. Lawrence in 1972 and began working in the Aircraft Turbine Engine Division of General Electric where he remained until his retirement in 1984.

As a youth he was an avid all around athlete, participating in all sporting events. His love of sports was to follow him throughout his life. In the early days of television, George enjoyed the challenge of TV repair work in his home. He was a member of the VFW Peabody Post 1011 and the Salem DAV Post 84. He was a member of the former St. Joseph Parish and more recently Ste. Anne Parish of Salem. But, George was all about Lou and his family. His life centered on them and he treasured the time spent with them. He will be greatly missed.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Paul L. Jalbert and his wife Donna of Rowley, three daughters, Diane M. Dubiel & Ellen C. Simard and her husband Raymond all of Salem, Jeanine A. Rybicki and her husband David, Sr. of Lynn, a sister, Gabrielle Tremblay of Townshend, thirteen grandchildren, Christopher & Joseph Jalbert, Jessica Connolly, John & Eric Walker, Thomas Dubiel, Jeffrey & Jeremy Simard, Jennifer Dubiel-Roussin, Kristin, Andrew & Michael Dubiel and David Rybicki, Jr. He also leaves 13 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Route 114 / 1-A] Salem on Friday, June 19. 2015 at 9:00 A.M. to be followed by his Funeral Mass in Ste. Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem at 10:00 A.M. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
