Obituary

WHITINSVILLE: John Edward Fahy, age 79, of Whitinsville, died suddenly on June 12, 2015. He was the devoted husband of the late Emily Ann (Carroll) Fahy, who died March 15th of this year, for 41 years.
John was born in Framingham on August 17, 1935, the eldest son of the late John and Helen (Greene) Fahy. Upon his 1953 graduation from Framingham High School, he enlisted with the Army and served with the 25th infantry division. Known as “Tropic Lightning,” the 25th was based out of Oahu, and after two years in Korea, John was stationed on the island until his honorable discharge in 1956. It gave him great pleasure to return to Oahu in later years. On one trip, he and Emily rented a house on the North Shore for six weeks so they could entertain family and friends who were able to fly out to visit.
John was a third-generation employee of ComGas (now Eversource) for nearly 37 years, working as a manager in Gas Supply. John received an Associates degree in Applied Management Sciences from Newbury Junior College and completed Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s-School of Industrial Management program in 1991.
From his childhood, John enjoyed the great outdoors, and throughout his life he loved exploring New England. In retirement, he and Emily traveled extensively and visited most of the U.S. and Canada as well as Alaska, Hawaii and Japan. He was an avid hiker, spending many happy hours climbing in New Hampshire’s Presidential Range, as well as on Mts. Monadnock and Greylock. At home in Whitinsville, John loved gardening and observing local wildlife. A passionate sports fan, he closely followed the ups and downs of the Red Sox, and he relished their World Series wins. John was a member of The Friends of the Upton State Forest, the Whitinsville Community Center and the Maspenock Rod & Gun Club. An entertaining storyteller, John was loving and generous to friends and family.
He is survived by a step-son, Paul Zicko and his wife Patricia of North Tewksbury; a step-daughter, Charlene Zicko of Norwood; a daughter, Desirée Zicko and her husband John Archibald of Reading; two grandsons, Zachary and Dante; a great-granddaughter, Ava; a brother-in-law Henry Haggerty of Whitinsville; a niece Pamela J. Carr, her husband James, and their children Lydia and Jack of Wellesley; a cousin, Maureen Bonzey; and a large extended family and a multitude of friends, all of whom will miss him. He was also the brother of the late Donald, Norman, and Stephen Fahy and Mary Ann Haggerty.
His Funeral will be held in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, on Friday, June 19th at 10:30AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial with military honors will follow at Dell Park Cemetery.
