Ilda (Silva) Moniz, age 82, of Taunton, formerly of Norton, passed away at home on Monday, June 15, 2015. She was the beloved wife of John Moniz, to whom she was wed on May 29, 1954.
Born in Madeira Island, Portugal on December 12, 1932, she was a loving daughter of the late John and Mary (Moniz) Silva.
At the age of 12, her family moved to the United States where they first settled in Philadelphia. She later moved to Norton and was a 1951 graduate of Norton High School. She continued her education and was a graduate of the former Pondville School of Nursing, receiving her degree as an LPN.
A resident of Taunton for the past 47 years, Mrs. Moniz was a retired LPN having worked at the former Country Haven Nursing Home in Norton and the former Sharon Manor Nursing Home in Sharon.
Ilda was an active communicant and daily parishioner of St. Andrew the Apostle Church in Taunton. She loved spending time with her family, painting and had a special place in her heart for animals, especially dogs.
In addition to her beloved husband of 61 years, she is survived by her devoted sons J. Michael Moniz of Norton and Anthony P. Moniz of Taunton. She was the dear sister of Arnold Silva of Taunton, and the late John Silva and Joseph Silva. She is also survived by her cherished granddaughters Jennifer Moniz and Jessica Moniz both of Taunton, and many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Friday, June 19th at 10:00 A.M. in St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 19 Kilmer Avenue, Taunton. Burial will follow at the Timothy Plain Cemetery in Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, June 18th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton.
