Margaret R. Leader

Margaret R. (Walsh) Leader, 98, a 55-year resident of Winchester, passed away on June 13, 2015. She was the beloved wife of the late Leonard G. Leader. Born in Somerville, Margaret was the daughter of the late John J. and Delia (Murphy) Walsh. Mrs. Leader attended UMASS Lowell for her degree in education and furthered her education at Boston University, earning her M.S. in Education.

A teacher, Margaret taught second grade in the Medford Public Schools for over 32 years, until her retirement. In her spare time, she and her husband Lenny volunteered at Winchester Hospital. She was also a volunteer for the Red Cross, and, as an ombudsman, was responsible for local nursing home checks. Margaret enjoyed spending time at the Jenks Senior Center in Winchester and at the Campion Club in Weston, and liked square dancing and gardening. She loved children and had many close friends.

The most important thing in Margaret’s life was her Catholic faith. A generous and kind person, she was also known to give to many charitable organizations.

Mrs. Leader is survived by many nieces and nephews and dedicated caregivers Virginia “Ginger” Boos, Nancy Clemetson, Janice Avery and Jeanne Sheridan. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather at Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St. Winchester on Thurs., June 18th, from 4-8PM, and then again on Friday at 9AM followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church 158Washington St., Winchester, MA 01890 at 10AM. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Mary’s Church at the address listed above.
