Ellen Marie DeToma of Leland, North Carolina and formerly of Natick passed away at home on Saturday, May 30, 2015 with family at her side at the age of 65.
Ellen found much pleasure in working with sheltered workshops both in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania and Ms. DeToma particularly enjoyed working at Bradlees and the Holiday Inn. Most recently Ellen was a student at the Brunswick Inter-agency Program in Boliva, NC. In her spare time she enjoyed perfecting skills in bowling. Playing guitar was certainly a favorite especially when she had a willing audience to sign along.
Being the first born in her family, Ellen was granted the pleasure of holding many babies. This brought her much pride and reaffirmed the fact that family was most important to her. Over the years, it is clear that Ellen touched many lives with her smiles, frequent hugs and her heartfelt laughter.
Gentle as a glove and stubborn as a mule was how one teacher described Ms. DeToma.
Being of strong faith and having much love for God, Ellen always enjoyed attending Saint Linus Church as a child and services at the Closer Walk United Methodist Church in Leland, North Carolina later in life.
Ellen was the daughter of the late Samuel and Betty (Doyle) DeToma and was predeceased by her beloved sister-in-law Linda DeToma.
Ms. DeToma is survived by her siblings, Patricia Calitri of Attleboro, MA, John DeToma of Mendon, MA, Paul DeToma of Raleigh, NC, Edward DeToma and his wife Diana of Leland, NC, Daniel DeToma of Marlborough, MA, Thomas DeToma of Tuscon, AZ, and David DeToma and his wife Chris of North Attleboro, MA.
In addition to her siblings she is survived by three nieces, three nephews, one great niece and two great nephews.
Family and friends are invited to a graveside service on Thursday, June 4th at 11:00 AM in Saint Patrick Cemetery, 180 Pond Street, Natick, MA
