WELTER, Gloria J. 75, of Needham, passed away May 28, 2015. Born to the late Floyd and Josephine Welter in South Bend, IN, she was preceded in death by sister, Jackie and brother, Richard. She was salutatorian of the 1957 class of Riley H.S. She earned her Master's degree in Library Science in 1965 from Western Michigan Univ. and spent her working career as a school librarian mostly, in and around, Needham, retiring in 1999. A voracious reader, Gloria served faithfully for many years as a volunteer and board member for The Friends of the Needham Library. A loyal John Denver fan, she was a member of his Friends of Windstar environmental organization. She was also a member of Doris Day's Animal League. She is survived by five nieces and nephews and countless friends who will miss her greatly while she is off catching butterflies in heaven.
Visiting hours at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 1305 Highland Ave., NEEDHAM, Friday, June 5 from 4-7pm. A Funeral Mass will be held in Gloria's parish, St. Joseph Church, Needham, Saturday, June 6 at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment private.
