Obituary

Yaemong Bang Kim, 87, beloved husband of Uisun Kim for 64 years, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Avalon Health Center with his family by his side.

He was born on April 17, 1928, the youngest of eight children, in a fishing village, Suyoo-ri in Chulsan, northwestern coast of Korea. His childhood home which he last saw in 1948, was always dear to his heart, and he longed to return someday if the two Koreas reunited in his lifetime.

Yaemong served in the South Korean Military for 13 years from October 1952 to June 1965. In 1967, his family of five immigrated to the US, settling in Hanover, NH. Having studied engineering at Hanyang College in Korea, he served as a technician at the Dartmouth Thayer School of Engineering and simultaneously earned a Master of Engineering degree from Dartmouth College, graduating in 1977. For 18 years, Yaemong was an aeronautical engineer for Boeing in Kansas and Lockheed Martin Marietta in the Atlanta area where he and his wife continued to reside since his retirement in 1996. In 2009, they relocated to Mystic, CT to be close to his children.

He is survived by Uisun; daughter Heryun Ayers and her husband Jonathan; daughter Hejung Kim; son Doung Kim and his wife Margaret; daughter Jennifer Voelker and her husband Martin, and ten grandchildren.

Yaemong was a very kind gentle honest hardworking man who loved his family. He enjoyed the beauty of the outdoors and simple pleasures in life - gardening, travel, fishing, Scrabble, Sudoku, and later in life dining at StoneRidge. He will be deeply missed.

The family will hold a private memorial to honor Yaemong at a later date. Donations in his memory may be directed to Mystic Congregational Church, 43 E. Main Street, Mystic, CT 06355.
