Gerald E (Gerry) Nutter a long time resident of Canton, passed away suddenly at the Norwood Hospital on May 22nd, he was 82. Born in Globe Arizona and raised in Long Beach California, Gerald attended public school and graduated from Long Beach State College with a Bachelor of Arts, Mathematics on June 10, 1960. He went on to study at the California Institute of Technology, E.E. Major, and continued graduate work at UCLA and USC in mathematics and computer electronics. Mr. Nutter served in the US Army Signal Corps from 1955 – 1957. He moved to Massachusetts in the early 1960s where he started his own computer company. He was also a consulting engineer, and rebuilt classic cars, including Citroens, Corvettes, Porsches and Jaguars. Gerald loved traveling the world and was a gardener extraordinaire. He was a member of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society and knew every name of every plant he ever planted. However his pride and joy were his Rhododendrons and his Azaleas in every color and species imaginable. For many years Gerald hosted a Memorial Day party for his friends and family where he thrived as chief griller, Margarita taster and garden tour guide. Gerald was also a man of culture. He attended the Opera two weeks ago, was a patron of the Boston Ballet and a longtime fan of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. His love of music included classical, American standards and jazz. Gerald is survived by his loving children Wendy Rae Nutter of Norwood, MA and Stephen Christopher Nutter of Truckee, CA; his long-time companion Kay Kilpatrick of Framingham, MA; cousin Patricia Gauss of Folsom, CA; friend Betty Custer of Shelburne, VT; and many other friends including long-time buddies Ronald Christensen of Lincoln, MA and Allen Walker of Burlington, MA. He was preceded by his parents Lucille (Gauss) Nutter and Raymond Nutter of Long Beach, CA and his cousin Richard Gordon Stewart of Tennessee. Services will be private.
