CHICOPEE - Alfred “Al” Morin, Jr., 68, of The Villages, Florida and a longtime resident of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2015 at his home at The Villages where he resided for the past four years. He was born in Chicopee on December 29, 1946, a son of the late Alfred Morin, Sr. and Edna (Labonte) Morin. Al grew up in Chicopee and attended Chicopee Comprehensive High School. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Army in 1966 and served his country during the Vietnam War with the 25th Infantry Tropic Lightning Division as a heavy equipment operator. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star for volunteering to clear an air strip for incoming support under heavy enemy fire. He also received the National Defense Service Medal, the M-14 Rifle Expert Badge, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device. He was honorably discharged in 1969 achieving the rank of Specialist Fourth Class. Following his service, he reenlisted in the Army National Guard and served for four years at Camp Edward. Al worked as an engineer for over 30 years at the former James River Graphics in South Hadley and retired in 2009. He was a member of the American Legion for 23 years and an avid hunter, golfer, camper and boater. For over 25 years, he enjoyed camping at Camp Overflow on Otis Reservoir with his brothers. Besides his parents, Al was predeceased by his two brothers, Raymond Morin and Roland Morin; and his sister, Rita Brunelle. Al is survived by his three children, Kenneth Morin of Greensboro, NC, Andrea Bartlett of Feeding Hills and Alyssa Howard and her husband, Shawn, of Palmer; his former wife, Margaret A. (Maloney) Morin of Chicopee; his eight grandchildren, Olivia and Santiago Morin, Sarah, Daniel, Emily and Timothy Bartlett, and Abigail and Liliana Howard. Al also leaves his brother, Roger Morin and his wife, Connie, of The Villages, FL; his sister, Eleanor “Marlene” Galant of Easthampton; his longtime companion, Faith Falls of Holyoke; and his many nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Morin family. Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, June 4, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. which will be concluded by a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. A Committal Service with United States Army Honors will be held on Friday, June 5, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Committal Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
