Mrs. Lavern Beck, 77, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Mrs. Beck was born in Telfair County, GA and has resided in Jacksonville since 1954. Her late husband of 48 years, Billy Beck, passed away in 2003 and after his passing, Lavern assumed the position of President of Beck's Outboard, which they established 52 years ago this month.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, Tom & Addie Bowen and sister, Inez Achord. Survivors include 2 children: Kay (Charles) Hardage and Billy (Lorrie) Beck, Jr.; 4 grandchildren: Chad (Kristy) Hardage, Miranda (Cory) Thompson, Brian (Taylor) Beck and Brad (Ashley) Beck; 3 great grandchildren: Amelia & Abigail Hardage and Wyatt Beck; 2 sisters: Loraine (Bud) Hurt and Gail (Sammy) Howell; 1 brother: Johnny Bowen and a number of nieces, nephews and extended family.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Oceanway Assembly of God, 12240 Sago Ave W., with Pastor Danny Baggett and Pastor Ken Barney, officiating. Her family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday at Oceanway Assembly of God. Burial Service will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday at Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald, Georgia.
