Marilyn C. Canfield age 69 of Brockton died Tuesday May 19, 2015 at the Beth Israel-Deaconess Medical Center after a brief illness. Marilyn was born in Bronxville, New York and raised in Brockton a daughter of the late Guyton and Ida (Anderson) Canfield. She was a 1963 graduate of Brockton High School and received her BA from U Mass Amherst in 1967. Marilyn earned her Master in Education in 1971 from Bridgewater State College.
Marilyn’s 36 year career in education was spent with the Brockton School Department where she had been a teacher at the Whitman Elementary School. She retired in 2003. Marilyn had been a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Sorority.
In her free time, Marilyn enjoyed craft fairs, scrap booking and solving crossword and Sudoku puzzles. She also volunteered at Old Colony Elder Services in Brockton.
Marilyn also enjoyed spending time with her friends and going to the movies. Her true joy in life was her dogs, Beau, Lola and Katie; they were her children.
Marilyn is survived by her brother Robert W. Canfield of N. Eastham and her three nieces and two nephews Linda Canfield of Brockton, Cynthia Ferreira of Taunton, Laurie Canfield Nabozny of Dracut, Robert W. Canfield, Jr. and Donald Canfield both of Taunton. She also leaves two grand nephews Brian Canfield and Kevin Adams both of Taunton.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123) Brockton Friday 4-8 pm. Funeral service and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Marilyn’s name to the Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave., Salem, MA 01970.
