Roosevelt Junior “R.J.” Norton, 82, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at Irwin County Hospital in Ocilla, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Saturday, May 23, 2015, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Terry Cole officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening, from 6 to 8, at the funeral home.
Mr. Norton was born July 19, 1932, in Jacksonville, Florida, to the late Theodore Roosevelt and Allie Thrift Norton. Being a former resident of Florida, Mr. Norton moved to the community in 1980 and was a security guard. He enjoyed growing vegetables, selling produce and he was also an avid Florida Gator fan. Mr. Norton was a member of the Fitzgerald Church of God.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years: Willa Sue H. Norton of Fitzgerald; children: Susan Alene Norton of Ocilla, Michael Junior Norton of Ocilla, Ricky Roosevelt Norton & Jennifer of Fitzgerald and Linda Gail N. Heard & Jason of Waterloo; grandchildren: Regina Jordan, James Norton, Jake Melton, Keri Melton, Stephanie Privette and Ricky Gunter; 16 great-grandchildren and a brother: James Randall Norton of Jacksonville, Florida. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother.
