Rose Moran
5/19/2015

Rose Moran (1920-2015) passed away in her home in West Roxbury Tuesday evening, May 19. Widow of Boston Police Lieutenant David Moran, and beloved mother to Barbara Southworth and grandmother to Jeffrey and Christine, and devoted aunt to many nieces and nephews - she loved her family and her abundant extended family adored her. She was "like a second mother" to more people than you can imagine.
Rose was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia to May Cormier and Joseph Gillis. She had six siblings: Mary, Jimmy, Johnny, Alice, Ida, and Charlie, and she is survived by her sister Ida Gilcoine. Her family moved to Quincy, Massachusetts when she was 5 years old. During World War II, she worked at Boston Gear Works in Quincy and made many friends who she’d keep her whole life. She worked as a hairdresser up until 10 years ago, continuing to drive to her clients’ homes to “do their hair”. She loved her work and loved her clients. She led a full life surrounded by loved ones, enjoyed shopping, keeping orchids in bloom for months on end, and most of all helping people whenever she could. She will be missed by many. Her funeral will be held at noon on Thursday, May 21 at Blue Hills Cemetery, 700 West Street, Braintree, MA. Please meet at the cemetery gate for procession to the grave. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Heart Association https://donatenow.heart.org
