Obituary

Violet A. (Lorusso) Reynolds, passed away peacefully at the Delray Medical Center on May 15, 2015 at age 96 with her son, Tom, at her side. She was born the youngest of three children to Italian immigrant parents, Antonio Lorusso and Rosa Pellegrini. She graduated from Shrewsbury High School where she played in the band and was active in sports including field hockey, swimming, and diving. She worked as a buyer for Marcus & Company in Worcester and during WWII she was a supervisor for John Bath & Company in Worcester. She met her future husband, Robert W. Reynolds in 1942 who was an Ensign Aviator in the U.S. Navy and they were married in 1948. He predeceased her in 2000. She leaves 2 of her 3 children: Thomas A. Reynolds, an attorney living in Worcester and Joanne M. Reynolds, a speech pathologist living in Orange County, California. Her youngest child, Robert, who was a Lieutenant in the Worcester Fire Department, had predeceased her in 2010. She also leaves four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

For many years she was a member of the Quaranta American Legion Post in Shrewsbury, and was past President of the Worcester-Auburn Emblem Club. She loved her family and friends and made friends easily. She loved socializing, dancing, and was always well dressed – shoes, handbags and ear rings were favorite accessories. She took violin lessons for 13 years but really loved the piano which she played well by ear. She loved to travel extensively with family and friends and always organized family summer vacations. She also loved the quiet solitude of Cape Cod and Florida where she spent much time with her husband strolling the beaches collecting interesting sea shells. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Calling hours are Thursday, May 21st from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. Funeral services are Friday, May 22nd at Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Worcester/Auburn Emblem Club will perform their ritual. Violet is a breast cancer survivor since 1986, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701 or the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc., 2600 Network Blvd., Suite 300, Frisco, Texas 75034 in her memory.
