Obituary

Thompson, CT. H. Mary (Thorpe) Mead, 89, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2015 in her home, surrounded by family and her beloved cat Muffy. She was a longtime resident of Quinebaug, CT. Her husband, Edward M. Mead Sr. died in 1989. She leaves her children, daughter Carol A. Mead of Thompson, son Edward M. Mead, Jr. of Quinebaug, son Donald E. Mead and wife Dalva of Dudley, MA. She also leaves 9 grandchildren, Donny, Derek, Sighly, Jeffrey, Danielle, Edward III, Scott, Kelly and James. 14 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, along with her dear brother Herbert Blake Thorpe of Manchester, NH. She was predeceased by son Patrick Mead, grandson Robert Mead, sisters Clara and Jean as well as brothers, Jim, Lloyd, Ken and Paul. Mary was born in Southboro, MA. The daughter of the late Frank Thorpe, a farmer, and Minnie (Chase) Thorpe of Nova Scotia. Mary moved to Connecticut as a child, she graduated from Tourtellotte Memorial High School, where she wrote the school song. A member of the First Congregational Church of Dudley, she worked in the Bookstore at Nichols College and their Post Office. Writing was one of her gifts, with poems published at Nichols. She enjoyed history, puzzles, collecting rocks, leaves, and newspaper clippings for others. She reminisced about her days on the farm, loved a good cup of coffee, and dearly missed her late sister Clara and neighbor/lifelong friend Mary Willet. Treasured were her travels to Oregon, Toronto, and her family home in Nova Scotia. She was able to make a special 4 generation trip to Ireland in 2009. Mary was always thinking of us and we will forever be thinking of her.

A Celebration of her Life will be Wednesday, June 17, 2015 from 11AM-1PM at the Quinebaug Fire Department. Burial was private at Corbin Cemetery in Dudley, MA. Robert J.
