Joseph D. Callahan

Joseph D. Callahan of Groveland, formerly of Medford, passed away at Wingate at Haverhill Nursing Center. He was 93. The son of the late Patrick and Delia (MacDonald) Callahan, Joseph was virtually a life-long Medford resident. After completing high school, he enlisted in the Navy and was a radio operator in the Pacific Theatre of operations during World War II. After his discharge he went to Indiana University, where he earned his degree in accounting. He eventually came to work with the City of Medford as the city’s Auditor. Joe served as Exalted Ruler of the Medford Lodge of Elks and retired from service to the City, 25 years ago. Joe enjoyed golf and time with family and friends. For the past 11 years he and his wife Pat have lived in Groveland.


The beloved husband of Patricia A. (Jolin) Callahan, he was a devoted father to Joseph D. Callahan, Jr. and his companion Ramona Black of Winchester. He was a dear brother of the late Theresa Callahan, Esther Miller and Lena Montgomery and is also survived by many dear nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Monday May 18th at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Raphael Church, 512 High Street, Medford at 10 AM Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday 4 – 8 PM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
