Jack Bailey
Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Sunday, May 10, 2015, Col. (RET) Jack Stephens Bailey U.S. Army, 95, loving husband to the late Laura I. Bailey.
Born in Elberton, Ga. to Dr. and Mrs. David V. Bailey; Jack was a graduate of Emory University. After graduation he joined the 214th Artillery Georgia Army National Guard Unit of Elberton, GA and was activated into the European Theatre in WWII. He also served in the Korean War and retired after 31 years of service. He served the Army in many installations throughout the world including Commander of the first missile battalion in Panama. His most rewarding assignments were serving in the Joint Chief of Staff and also the Chief of Staff of the Army at the Pentagon. He retired from the Army in 1973 and was an active member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church, the Augusta Chapter of TROA, serving as the local and state president. He also enjoyed golf with his military friends.
Family members include his son: David V. Bailey and wife Mary; daughters: Carol B. Cox, Margaret B. McAvoy and husband Dan; grandchildren: Alice Parker and husband Jim, Amy Diamondidis and husband Gus, Christy Casher and husband Ray, Julie Hover and husband Stacy, Jennifer Williams and husband Bryan, Laura Goulder and husband Jason, and Daniel McAvoy and wife Lauren; and 15 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents,
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. at Woodlawn United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim McCullough and Dr. Jim Higgins officiating. Burial will follow in Westover Memorial Park.
