Obituary

JACOBS, Albert Edward Of Needham, was a dedicated husband and father, an avid outdoorsman, a precise craftsman, and a man of high integrity and boundless intellectual curiosity. He passed away peacefully at age 93 in his home on May 5, 2015 surrounded by loved ones. Raised in Roslindale, Al was the eldest of 7 children of the late Albert and Johanna Jacobs. He graduated from Mechanic Arts High School and attended Wentworth Institute of Technology. Al served in the AAF in WWII and Air Force during the Korean War. He worked as a technician on cutting edge electronics and radar equipment at Sylvania Labs, and then ultimately as a seasoned supervisor at Megapulse, founder of Loran-C navigation. Al was the beloved husband of Joan (Heffernan) for 56 years in their cherished Needham home where they raised their six children. He transmitted his love for the outdoors to all his children by leading the family on hiking, canoe and ski trips. His diverse collection of books and board games sparked many friendly family conversations and competitions at home. His passionate interest in architecture, aeronautics, history, literature, photography, science and technology never waned. He is survived by his close-knit six children and ten grandchildren.
