Melly, Francis Xavier, most recently of Newton MA., May 4, 2015. Beloved husband of the late Janice Judge. Loving father of Peter Melly, Susan Brown, Steven Melly, and Christopher Melly. Cherished grandfather of Cathy, Meaghan, David, Joseph, Caroline, Sophie, Alex, Collin, Elizabeth Chloe, and Justin. Son of the late Thomas W. Melly and Mary Ellen (Mogan) Melly of Arlington MA., devoted brother of the late Mary Devlin, the late Sister Catherine Melly, the late Thomas Melly, the late Sister Agnes Melly, and Anne Doherty of Arlington, MA. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Francis served for one term in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed at Fort Devens and the Pentagon.
After the service, Francis worked until retirement as an executive for N.E. Telephone and AT&T.
Francis was raised in Arlington, MA and also lived in Concord, MA, Chatham, N.J., and North Reading, MA. He was a member of the Concord Minutemen, enjoyed tennis, and spent some time helping to coordinate charitable golf tournaments in North Andover, MA. He became an avid golfer in his later years and loved having his grandchildren visit him at his house on the golf course.
Funeral from the Robert J. Lawler and Crosby Funeral Home, 1803 Centre St., West Roxbury, on Saturday, May 30, at 9:00am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. John Chrysostom at 10:00am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours in the funeral home on Friday, from 5:00 to 8:00pm. Interment Mt. Benedict Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Francis’ name to the Alzheimer’s Association at http://www.alz.org.
