Obituary

Manchester– Corporal Francis D. Gorski, 95, died May 3, 2015 at the NH Veterans Home in Tilton following a brief illness.
He was born in Manchester on June 6, 1919 the son of Leon and Julia (Wszotek) Gorski and had been a lifelong resident of Manchester.
He was a retired Loom Fixer in the Waumbec Mills for 38 years. He was a Communicant of St. Hedwig Church and served on numerous committees. He was also a Life member of St. Joseph Society Inc.
He served his country in the NH 172nd Field Artillery Battery E. 1938– 1939. He served with the 4th Marines 6th Division for 3 years, participated in action in the Ryukyu Islands and Okinawa Invasion from April through June 1945 for 81 days. He held Life Memberships in the 6th Marine Division Association, VFW Post 8546– M.O.C. Pt. 12,- Amp Vets Post 2 of Salem. Francis was a Charter Member of C.W.V. 1341 of St. Hedwig Church, as well as a Life Member of National Home, Eaton Rapids, Michigan, (Children who lost their parents in wars). He volunteered 2,850 hours at the Manchester V.A. Hospital, and was involved in the Civilian Conservation Corps, and Works Progress Administration.
He was predeceased by his wife, Marion (Dabrowski) Gorski on December 24, 2003.
Family members include one daughter, Julia (Gorski) Wetherbee and her husband, Duane of Auburn, 2 grandchildren, Darren Wetherbee and his friend Christine Skalkeas of Auburn, Kevin Wetherbee of Manchester, 1 great grandson, Adam Wetherbee of Auburn, 1 brother, Walter Gorski of Manchester, and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the NH Veterans Home, Manchester V.A. Medical Center and numerous friends, family and Marine Brothers, all of whom were held close to Francis’ heart.
Calling Hours will be on Wednesday from 3 to 7 PM at J. N. Boufford & Sons Funeral Home, 110 Bridge St.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 AM in St. Hedwig Church.
Committal prayers will follow in St. Hedwig Cemetery.
