Jerald L. Pickett, age 71, of Norton, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. He was the beloved husband of Wini J. (Zarth) Pickett.
Born in Buffalo, New York on August 30, 1943, he was a son of the late Lloyd and Evelyn (Danielson) Pickett. He grew up and was educated in Superior, Wisconsin.
During the Vietnam Era, Jerry proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy. His duty was aboard the U.S.S. Will Rogers SSBN, a nuclear submarine, of which he and fellow crewmembers were original charters. He was honorably discharge on September 15, 1971 with the rank of Machinist’s Mate Second Class.
A resident of Norton for over 40 years, Mr. Pickett was a retired shift supervisor, having worked for over 30 years at Bay State Gas in Easton.
Along with his family, Jerry was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Way in Raynham. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and outdoor activities, which included fishing, hunting and gardening.
Mr. Pickett was a life member of the Air Force Association and the National Rifleman’s Association. He was also a member of the 11th Massachusetts Regiment and the Silver City Bass Club.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted children: Diana L. Eason and her husband Brian of North Carolina, Barbara J. Connors and her husband Seth of Taunton and Matthew A. Pickett of Norton. He was the dear brother of Annelle Reese and her husband John, Ilene Brown and Lorene Sumner all of Wisconsin. He was the cherished grandfather of Rhiannon, Charlie and Nick Eason, and Rhys Connors. He is also survived several loving nieces and nephews.
His funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Wednesday, May 6th at 12:00 P.M. in the Lutheran Church of the Way, 110 Robinson St., Raynham. Burial with military honors will follow at the Timothy Plain Cemetery in Norton.
Visitation will be held prior to the services on Wednesday morning beginning at 11:00 A.M. at the Church.
In lieu of flowers, Jerry’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 150 Cambridge Park Dive, Suite 202, Cambridge, MA 02140.
