New Bedford – Jose Sousa Costa, age 79, died Saturday, May 2, 2015, peacefully at home with his family at his side. He was the loved husband of Maria Zulmira (Sousa) Costa of New Bedford and the son of the late Maria (Marques) and Jose Costa. He was born in Ponte Garca, Sao Miguel, Acores and moved to this area in 1974 where he worked as a landscaper.
His surviving family includes his wife, his daughter Lucilia, wife of Jose Medeiros, of Dartmouth; son Jose E. Costa, of Berkley;
daughter Virginia, wife of John Perriera, of Dartmouth; sister Fatima Damasio, of Bristol, RI. grandchildren: Joshua Medeiros, Derek Medeiros, Olivia Perriera, Emilia Perriera, Cecelia Costa and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be Tuesday beginning in the funeral home at 8:00 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Monday from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
