New Bedford – Mariana DeSousa, age 98 of New Bedford, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth. She was the loved wife of the late Francisco Carvalho Reis and the daughter of the late Rosa (deJesus) and Antonio Sousa.
Mrs. DeSousa was born in Remeidos Bretanha, St. Michael, Azores, moved to this country in 2006 and was a devoted home maker for her family.
Mariana enjoyed action movies and watching the 3 Stooges, she was a skilled sweetbread maker and enjoyed being a caregiver to the eldery people. But most of all, Mariana loved her family very much.
Her family includes her children: Maria Rosa Reis and her husband Manuel Raposo of Portugal, Francisco Reis and his wife Ladelina of Portugal, Silvana Melo and the late husband Aurelio Melo of Dartmouth, Margarida Novo and her husband Antonio of Dartmouth, Guilherme Reis and his wife Mariana Reis of New Bedford, Senhorinha Reis and her husband Miguel of Portugal, and Fatima Pimentel of New Bedford, as well as 24 Grandchildren and 46 Great Grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. DeSousa was predeceased by 7 siblings.
Her funeral will be Saturday beginning in the funeral home at 7:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 8:30 A.M. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Friday evening in the funeral home from 4 – 8 P.M. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
