Obituary

Mr. Alfred Archie Koch of Windham, New Hampshire, formerly of Andover and beloved husband of the late Marian J. (Banville) Koch, passed away at home on April 24, 2015. He was 90 years old.
Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, on June 6, 1924, he was the beloved son of the late Frederick and Suzanne (VanOvertveldt) Koch. Al was a WWII Army veteran, entering the military on March 9, 1944 at Ft. Devens and receiving his honorable discharge on December 23, 1946. He attained the rank of Sergeant and served as a Squad Leader for K Company, 334th Infantry of the 84th Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star, the Combat Infantryman Badge, three Battle Stars, the Distinguished Unit Badge, and the Good Conduct Medal for his exemplary service.
Al held a Bachelor’s degree in Physics and a Master’s degree in mathematics and physics from Northeastern University in Boston. He worked as a physicist for Textron Defense Systems for more than 30 years. In his spare time, Mr. Koch was a volunteer for the Lawrence History Center and the Boy Scouts of America and had served as Trustee Emeritus of the Andover Village Improvement Society (AVIS). He will be dearly missed.
Al is survived by his two loving sons and one daughter-in-law; Michael J. and his wife Wanda A. Koch of Windham, New Hampshire and Christopher J. Koch of Andover, sister; Mildred Moreland of Syracuse, New York and many nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Stephen W. Koch and Daniel E. Koch.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 198 Haggett's Pond Road, Andover, on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Calling hours will be held in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, Andover, on Monday, April 27, 2014, from 4 to 8 PM. Interment will be held in the West Parish Garden Cemetery in Andover.
