Obituary

John A. Giaquinto, 93, of Worcester died Friday, April 17th. He leaves his wife of 40 years, Alyce (Donnelly) Giaquinto; a daughter, Jacqueline D. Giaquinto of Ayer and three nieces; Donna and her husband Joseph Auciello of Chatham, Patricia and her husband, Dr. Lief Nordstrom of Wilbraham and Laurie and her husband, Wayne Borrelli of Davidson, North Carolina. He was predeceased by a brother, Donald Giaquinto.
He was born in Worcester the son of Dominick and Rose (Toscano) Giaquinto and graduated from North High School, the University of Miami and received a Master’s Degree from Worcester State University. John worked for the Worcester Public Schools for many years as a physical education teacher at various schools, retiring in 1982. He also coached golf at South High School and Football at Doherty High School. An avid golfer, John was a member of both Indian Meadows and Pleasant Valley Golf Club as well as Blessed Sacrament Church.
Mr. Giaquinto was a veteran of United States Navy serving as a pilot in World War II and retired from the United States Naval Reserves as a Commander, where he served for 20 years.
His funeral is Friday, April, 24th with a Mass at 11:00 A.M. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant Street. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472. O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, is directing arrangements.
