NEW BEDFORD — Brenda N. Dixon, age 91, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2015. She was the wife of the late Francis "Frank" E. Dixon to whom she was married for 60 years.
She was born in Haydock, Lancashire England to the late Herbert and Emma Norcross, and educated in England.
Brenda was the treasurer for the New Bedford Educators Association for many years until her retirement. She was past president of the New Bedford YWCA; Treasurer of the Ladies Branch of the Port Society, and served as President of the Massachusetts Girl Scout Council along with being troop leader for many years.
She was always happiest when surrounded by her family and the many friends she had made. Brenda was also an active supporter of her grandchildren's school and sport activities.
Brenda is survived by a daughter, Janice Paquette and her husband Maurice of Dartmouth; her son Keith and his wife Sarah of Lakeville. She was the proud grandmother of four grandsons: Craig Dixon and Ryan Dixon of New Bedford; Scott Dixon and his wife Melissa of Norfolk, Virginia; Jeremy Paquette and his fiancee Ashley Xavier of Swansea; along with three great-granddaughters Faith, Ariana and Sian and many nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by her two brothers; Horace and Kenneth and her sister Vera.
A private celebration of her long happy life will take place at 11 a.m. in Eliot, Maine at the First Congregational Church on Saturday, April 25th with burial to follow at the Brooks Memorial Cemetery in Eliot, Maine
