Obituary

It is with great sadness that we bid farewell to our loving husband, father and grandpa Joseph Louis Romolo. Surrounded by his family, Joe passed away at home on April 15, 2015 after his one and a half years battle with carcinoma.
Joe was born on June 6, 1941 in Upland, where he was the youngest of two children to Louis and Henrietta Romolo. He grew up on the family winery in Guasti and enjoyed summers at the beach in Balboa, CA. He excelled at school from a young age and found the perfect outlet for his attention to detail and compassion for others by entering the field of Medicine.
After graduating with honors from the University of Southern California School of Medicine in 1966, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he honorably served his country. Joe spent the next 28 years of his life on the East Coast where he continued his medical career as a vascular surgeon at the National Institutes for Health, Johns Hopkins, the Washington Hospital Center and Georgetown University Hospital. During this time, Joe married his first wife, Judy and together they had one daughter Jennie and two sons, Ted and John.
Joe made it back to the West Coast with his wonderful wife Pat where they happily settled in Ventura. For the last 15 years of his medical career at Community Memorial Hospital, he offered his expertise and compassion to all those he served. He cared deeply for all his patients and treated them the same as he would have wanted his own family to be treated.
After retiring, Joe stayed involved with the Community Memorial Hospital community. Joe enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren and trying out new recipes for all to enjoy. Between cooking, tending to his beautiful gardens and watching football games, Joe enjoyed his retirement years.
He is survived by his wife Pat L. Romolo; 2 sons Ted and John (Ione); daughter Jennie (Reda); a sister Anita Mittelman (Martin); step-sons Jeremy (Jen), Jonathan (Alicia), and Christopher (Shannon) Maylard; 4 grandchildren and 2 nieces.
Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10am Saturday April 25, 2015 in San Buenaventura Mission, 211 E. Main Street Ventura. Donations in Dr. Romolo's name may be made to San Buenaventura Mission, 211 E. Main Street Ventura, CA 93001.
