Passed away unexpectedly, Monday, April 13, 2015. Retired GE Nuclear Engineer. Preceded in death by parents, Elof & Caroline Mattson. He was born on a farm in Cadott, WI in 1932 and moved to MN for college and he was a Korean war veteran. Mel was united in marriage to Lorraine (Lund) Mattson in 1955 at Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, WI. Long time members of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, North St. Paul. Survived by his wife, Lorraine; children Debra (Bob) Bosak, Barbara (Claude) Forshier and Jonathan Mattson (Lisa) of Nashville, TN; grandchildren Jennifer Hill (Ryan Herbenson), Jaclyn Thesing (Sam), Brian Bosak and Emma Mattson; sister Dr. Carol Mattson Porth and her children Rick Porth, Susan James (Tom) and Sandy Porth; other friends and relatives. Mel traveled the world as a Nuclear Engineer for G.E. His passions were collecting antiques, making maple syrup at his farm in Cadott, WI and his family. Service Sunday (April 19) at 3:00 pm at SANDBERG FUNERAL HOME, 2593 E. 7th Avenue, North St. Paul with visitation one hour before the service. Private interment Lakeview Cemetery. Memorials preferred to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church- North St. Paul, MN or Big Drywood Lutheran Church- Cadott, WI.
