Donald “Ducky” O’Shea of Canton died on January 8, 2015 in his winter home of Sebastian, FL. Donald grew up in Dorchester, MA before joining the Navy at 17 and serving in the South Pacific during WWII. Upon his return, Donald met and married his beloved wife, Helen Frances Ennis, and together they moved to Canton to raise their 7 children. During this time, Donald embarked on a remarkable career at the Boston Edison Company starting as a cable splicer, and over time developing an Employee Assistance department. Donald’s involvement in the latter proved beneficial as countless Edison employees accessed substance abuse help through this department. Donald retired from Boston Edison in 1989, and both he and Helen became active Florida snowbirds enjoying travel, outdoor activities, and good times with family and friends. After Helen’s untimely death in 1994, Donald married Eileen Webster of Florida, formerly of New York, where they continued to travel and enjoy the Florida climate. Donald is survived by Eileen. Donald is father to the late Karen O’Shea Conroy of Cotuit; Robert O’Shea of Connecticut; Kathy O’Shea Roache and husband James Roache of Canton; Deirdre O’Shea Regensburg and husband Michael Regensburg of Florida; Daniel O’Shea and wife Donna Savonen O’Shea of Easton; Erin O’Shea Lowney and husband Edward Lowney of Easton; Lauren O’Shea Logan and husband Allan Logan of Durham, NC. Grandfather to Shane Conroy, Josh Conroy, Deirdre Conroy, Sarah O’Shea, Jaclyn O’Shea, Cheryl O’Shea, Kaitlin Roache, Catherine Whippen, Jennifer O’Shea, Michael O’Shea, Ryan O’Shea, Julia Lowney, Jessica Lowney, Dana Lowney, Charles Logan, Deirdre Logan and 9 great-grandchildren. Donald was also a friend of Bill W. for over 58 years.
Donald’s ashes will be interred at National Cemetery in Bourne, MA on Friday, April 24 at 11:am. His life will be celebrated at the Irish Cultural Centre in Canton, MA on Friday, April 24, visiting hours 6:00pm-8:00pm.
